Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on Johor voters to select leaders who demonstrate integrity and wisdom rather than arrogance when holding office, warning against those who exploit divisive sentiments for political gain. Speaking at a Pakatan Harapan rally in Muar on June 15, he cautioned that some factions prioritize racial grievances over delivering on promises to the public after elections.
Anwar emphasized that electing the right leaders is fundamental to shaping a state's future and development trajectory. He urged voters to make informed decisions based on substantive policy platforms rather than emotional appeals. "For politics to succeed, people must read and listen. Do not exploit sentiments of hatred toward others," he said, highlighting concerns about the long-term consequences for the nation, education system, and healthcare services.
The Prime Minister stressed that elected representatives must focus on serving the public after winning office, particularly disadvantaged communities. He underscored that Pakatan Harapan's victory in the Johor State Election is essential to ensure state policies align with the Federal Government's development agenda and economic programmes.
Alignment between state and federal administrations is critical for maximizing the benefits of federal investments and mega-projects for ordinary citizens, Anwar explained. He cited major initiatives such as the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone and Port of Tanjung Pelepas expansion, noting that while state cooperation matters, federal execution has been instrumental in advancing these projects.
Calling on all Johor voters, including those living elsewhere, to return home and participate in the July 11 election, Anwar stressed that every vote carries weight in driving policy reform and ensuring equitable economic benefits reach the grassroots level. He encouraged residents to exercise their civic duty in determining the state's future direction.
